PROJECT REFERAL

AmSoft created a Template Management System that enables a TV producer to drive the Graphics - statistics, timings, results, etc., through a simple video switcher like interface that can be operated by the Producer himself (provided independence from software programmers). The solution used Pesa Character Generator (CG) clients on IBM's Token ring and inter-operated with the Result management Systems of EDS to get real-time data.

The graphics were defined as templates with data fields linked to local and remote data sources. At the click of a button, the system picked up a template, rendered it with live data, and previewed it for the producer to take on-air.

The solution objectives were:

  • Enabling live Television coverage of the Olympics.
  • Designing a system to bring together graphics, databases, computing and display under the master control of the producer.

The system was reused at Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 (different CGs) as it provided flexibility to re-configure with completely new look and feel (template based) and required very little training to empower a TV producer to be self-sufficient - saving, time, money and operational hassles.
